Apr 28, Colombo: A Sinhala nationalist political party filed a petition in Supreme Court of Sri Lanka yesterday against a number of Tamil parties that use the word Tamil Eelam in their names.
The petitioner Jayantha Liyanage, secretary of Sinhala National Front says that the names of certain Tamil political parties themselves express that establishing a separate Tamil state is one of their aims.

He cited the names of Tamil National Alliance, Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization, Eelam People's Revolutionary Liberation Front and Tamil United Liberation Front etc. as examples.

The petitioner seeks a verdict that the aim of these political parties is to establish a separate state that goes against the Constitution of Sri Lanka.

Sinhala National Front has sought recognition of the Election Commissioner to contest in future elections, the petitioner has said.
