Apr 25, Colombo: Special attention of the Sri Lankan government as well as that of the President and the Prime Minister has been focused on the recent incidents that took place in the Dambulla sacred area, the government said issuing a press release.
Sri Lanka is a multi-religious, multi-ethnic country which safeguards this social structure with respect allowing broad social and religious freedom for all religions to carry out their activities in conformity to the Constitution, issuing a statement, Director General of the Government Information Department Prof. Ariyaratne Ethugala said.
The government said it is constantly dedicated to monitor and take suitable action if extremist groups were to create disturbances through international pressure or other strategies. The Government including the President and the Prime Minister has already drawn its attention to the Dambulla Sacred Area.
The government said that a decision has been taken to develop the Dambulla Sacred Area according to a broad based development plan within a short period without hindering any other party.
It has already been agreed to take necessary action with regard to future activities through discussions with all parties concerned.
The statement said that it is the obligation and onus of all parties to act with restraint and work with understanding and patience to safeguard the peaceful environment established in the country after the 30-year-old conflict.
