Apr 18, Colombo: The newly formed Frontline Socialist Party (FSP) of Sri Lanka Marxist party JVP dissidents says the government, after carrying out abductions through white vans, use the police to intimidate persons with dissenting views. FSP Spokesperson Pubudu Jagoda said the police should not allow the government to use them as pawns.
Jagoda noted that the police was making contradictory statements over the abduction and release of party front liners, Premakumar Gunaratnam and Dimuthu Attygalle and party members were being harassed by the police.
He explained that police personnel have visited the houses of FSP members and have harassed and intimidated them and recorded statements.
However, after the FSP had written to the IGP about the matter, the police have stopped visiting houses and are now visiting FSP offices, the spokesperson said.
According to Jagoda, the FSP was prepared to fight on behalf of the hundreds of persons who have been abducted and still remain missing including two of its party members, Lalith Kumar Weeraraj and Kugan Muruganathan.
He called on the people to unite against the anti-democratic actions of the government.
